Here are some character designs from our game Midnight Girl. They were all made in Adobe Illustrator and animated in Spine.
Midnight Girl is a a casual 2D point-and-click adventure game that takes place in France during the Sixties. The story, mood, and style of the game are inspired by the city of Paris, Belgian comics and heist films from the Sixties.

Monique
Monique is the main protagonist in the game. Her distinct hairstyle is inspired by the character Diana Monti from the 1963 movie Judex.

Gustave
Gustave is the secondary protagonist in Midnight Girl. His appearance is rugged, yet stylish, and he sports a cigarette at all times - which is never actually lit. We wanted the character to smoke all the time, but the smoke was too hard to animate consistently, so we had to drop it. So far however, no one has complained about the missing smoke.

Frank
Frank is Monsieur Durant's personal bodyguard, and is one of my favorite characters in Midnight Girl. He sports a powerful mustache, a five-a-clock shade and a suit that probably was a perfect fit before he started power-lifting. His broken nose and band-aid suggests that he's recently been in a fight, and the wrinkled tie tells you that he doesn't care much for fashion.
Fun fact: Whenever make a game, I always try to sneak in the name "Frank" somewhere.

The Chapel of Saint Legor is maintained by a few nuns. whose uniforms suggests that they belong to the Daughters of Charity order. I'm not religious in any way, and the reason I chose this particular order is simply that I like the funny hats.

The Station Worker
The metro features a rugged station worker, who seemingly holds a strong resentment against young people, especially beatniks. I modeled this character after a (rather sweet) landlord I once knew, whose life of manual labor had hardened his body into a permanent gorilla-like shape.
